You Spoke About Candy!

Friday, October 30, 2009

Wow, the candy blog got quite the response. Here’s a quick cross section of those comments:

Hello Shawn
You’re right. It was better when we were younger cause now kids just don’t care. Halloween was better and more fun then so it’s probably something that should just disappear. I don’t think anyone would miss the trick or treating except the candy companies.

Hi Shawn:
I do agree with you. I do think Halloween was better when we were younger. I feel that maybe there was more of an "appreciation" for what we got. Yeah sure, there were houses that year after year you could almost guarantee what you were getting and sometimes you wouldn't get that excited about it, but we were grateful anyway.

I have to tell you it kind of bugs me when you get some remark like, "Is that it?" but for the most part the kids are okay and I still get a kick out of handing out the goods. I'm also okay if there is still some left at the end of the night....yummy.

Hey Shawn,
You've triggered a memory of mine. As Kids, We thought we were Really Smart and went Trick or Treating at the RICH people's houses. We thought... They're Rich, we'll score Good Stuff, Full-sized Chocolate Bars, that kind of stuff. You know Why they're Rich? They don't hand out anything. Lesson learned being Rich sucks.

Hey Shawn,
My exact feelings as well.........halloween was MUCH more fun when I was trick or treating age. What really made me angry one halloween about 20 years ago was when I was living in an apartment on halloween I heard "kids" knocking on my door saying "trick or treat" you better open up the  door or else.....Needless to say I was in total shock, put on my coat and went out for the rest of the night. I had hoped that this was an isolated incident but nevertheless...

Halloween started changing the more commercial it became. Now it’s just one big money grab by any company that can get in on it. It’s not fun anymore. Of course, I’m not 8 anymore. J

Well, just some of the comments – I wonder if Halloween will still be around 10 or 20 years from now.

Have a great weekend. Talk to you Monday!
