That's what the province is now telling us to do. Yes, there is an incentive. In fact, the province is giving us 17, 500 very good reasons to ditch the car go for a stroll.
A recent announcement suggests the provincial government will provide the City of Barrie with $17, 500 worth of cash to spend on upgrading the city's bicycle facilities. Including new racks to lock your ride to. Part of the fund will also help raise awareness for a "car free" day at some point in September.
This is a fantastic idea isn't it? Really... it is. But, what if that money was used for something else?
Are more bike racks truly going to get us to ride more often? Not likely.
Spend it on something that can reduce green house emissions year round... perhaps thousands of hamsters equipped with running wheels that can generate electricity.
